The University Grants Commission (UGC) is actively promoting the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD). This flagship initiative empowers young leaders across India and strengthens their role in nation-building and leadership development.
About VBYLD
VBYLD evolved from the long-running National Youth Festival. It now provides a dynamic and inclusive platform for India’s youth aged 15–29. Participants can present their vision and ideas directly to senior government leaders.
The initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s Independence Day call. It seeks to engage one lakh youth in public affairs, politics, and policymaking without requiring political backgrounds.
Launched in 2025, the first edition became a historic success. Nearly 30 lakh youth took part in the Viksit Bharat Challenge. They submitted over two lakh essays, while 9,000 young leaders showcased ideas at state championships.
The national event took place at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. It brought together 3,000 youth changemakers from across India, including distinguished pathbreakers from various sectors.
Highlights of the 2025 Edition
The inaugural edition featured a wide range of activities. These included essay competitions, quizzes, presentations, cultural events, and thematic discussions on ten key areas of development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent significant time with the youth, inspiring them to lead India towards becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
Senior dignitaries also attended. Notable names included Shri Amitabh Kant, Dr. S. Somanath (former ISRO Chairman), Shri Anand Mahindra, Shri Ritesh Agarwal, and other domain experts.
VBYLD 2026 and Future Outlook
The first edition’s success paved the way for an expanded VBYLD 2026. Organizers plan to involve more youth, add new thematic tracks, and increase outreach.
A press conference in September 2025 announced the second edition. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports emphasized the importance of ongoing youth involvement in nation-building.
UGC’s Role and Encouragement
The UGC urges higher education institutions to promote the VBYLD initiative among students. It encourages participation in upcoming events such as quizzes and challenges on platforms like My Bharat and MyGov. These opportunities help young leaders engage meaningfully in India’s development agenda.
