India is observing the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2025 from 17th September to 2nd October, culminating in Swachh Bharat Diwas on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The campaign celebrates the theme “Swachhotsav”, highlighting the festive spirit of cleanliness and sustainable practices nationwide.
Objectives and Significance
The campaign strengthens volunteerism and collective action for sanitation in rural and urban India. It builds momentum for the Swachh Bharat Mission by mobilizing communities to make India cleaner, greener, and healthier. SHS 2025 focuses on:

Transforming Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) by mapping and cleaning neglected areas.

Enhancing cleanliness in public spaces like railway stations, bus stands, drains, ghats, and heritage sites.

Hosting SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivirs for sanitation workers’ welfare and health check-ups.

Promoting Clean Green Utsav with eco-friendly, zero-waste practices.

Driving advocacy efforts such as Swachh Sujal Gaon, Waste to Art, Clean Street Food, and the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Activities Across Schools and Communities
Schools and colleges actively involve students, teachers, and citizens through:

Taking the Swachhta Shapath (Cleanliness Pledge).

Conducting campus-wide cleanliness drives.

Organizing essay writing, debates, quizzes, painting, and slogan competitions.

Setting up selfie points and awareness booths.

Nationwide Shramdaan
On 25th September 2025, the campaign will host “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” (One Day, One Hour, Together). Citizens will dedicate one hour nationwide to collective cleanliness efforts, symbolizing unity and shared responsibility.
Role of HEIs and UGC
The Ministry of Education and UGC have urged Higher Education Institutions to host special events, record activities, and share them on social media using #SwachhataSeva2025 and #Swachhotsav to amplify awareness.
Government Support
Multiple ministries, including Housing and Urban Affairs, Drinking Water & Sanitation, and School Education & Literacy, are supporting CTU transformations and health camps while ensuring coordinated implementation across India.
