Tunga Mahavidyalaya, Shimoga started in the year 1967 is an affiliated college located in Thirthahalli, Shivamogga Karnataka. This reputable college occupies as large a space as 24 acres to provide education that combines both conventional methods and advanced technologies. NAAC approved the Tunga Mahavidyalaya and it has a fair reputation in the region as an educational institute. The college caters the need for quality education with a total enrolment of 508 students and a faculty 42 members which makes for a good student teacher ratio. Here the institute provides 4 distinct programmes in undergraduate and postgraduate levels to meet the educational needs of various students.

Tunga Mahavidyalaya has a rich set of facilities that can improve the education process together with the outcome in the students. The college library as part of the development of the institution was established in 1967 and has the following stock of books, bound periodicals, back vocalist and current vocalist respectively; the college library has a stock of over 52, 000 books; 87 back volumes of periodicals and 56 current periodicals. It has research and study facilities together with a cyber lab bearing all relevant electronics for research. Sport lovers will have something to look at when they join the college as it comes with a 4 acreage space for sports, an indoor court and a gym. It also has developed modern IT facilities and classroom equipments so that the student can have update of the current trends. In the case of extra curricula activities and functions, a 500 seater that has been completed serves best. Some of the other facilities are canteen, minor treatment centre, or health centre, and car parking. The college also has the facility of transporting students in its buses for all those who are within the cities.

Tunga Mahavidyalaya has set up itself good academic programmes that cut across all the disciplinary spheres. Out of the 4 courses offered in the institution, they are fully taught courses as well as half full and half part-time courses, undergraduate and post graduate. Whereas the undergraduate programmes include B.Com, B.Sc and BA, the postgraduate programme that is available is M.Com. Out of these, the B.Com programme, which is one of the favorites, has an approved strength of 120. The college targets at admitting 508 students for all the various courses offered so that it can maintain quality education by admitting limited number of students per class. Recent information shows that in the most recent academic year the college graduated 174 students; of these 130 graduated from undergraduate programmes while 44 from post graduate courses.

The admission procedure in Tunga Mahavidyalaya is equally open and sensitive to merit, and qualified students are admitted to the college. The college mainly selects students after they sit for the qualifying examinations but the requirements could vary with the programme of study. Surprisingly, the college has 0% students from outside the state thereby making its students emphasize and focus on talent within the state. This contributes to the formation of on-campus mobilised community atmosphere. The institution also provides scholarships to sponsors to support deserving scholar ship beneficiaries. Specifically in the 2021 academic year, fresh and existing beneficiaries for scholarship reimbursements include 26 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate students confirming the college’s strategic priority of affordability of education.
