Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) which was started in 2006 is one of the most recognised medical college situate at Kulasekharam, Tamil Nadu. This co-educational institute comprising of 73 acres of land is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University and recognised by the N.M.C. At SMIMS, there are available 20 medical programmes in the form of courses at 3 levels of degree, in accordance with the total student enrolment of 119. It has a total of 218 faculties to cater the students to have a close interaction with the teachers to have good student faculty ratio which foster quality education.
Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences operates with various facilities that facilitate the student in their social and academic development. The campus has accommodated a separate hostel for boy’s and girl’s but they provide a comfortable stay. A sports area with first aid kits available for students is used in a health centre equipped for the primary needs. For physical fitness SMIMS possesses a modern gym and diverse sport equipments. There is an institute library as a part of the knowledge centre and IT facility to keep the students updated with technological advancement. In medical courses, SMIMS provides the entire range of degrees; 21 courses include undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. The MBBS programme has intake capacity of 150 seats and there are other post graduate courses like MS and MD having limited intake of 1-9 seats respectively. All courses are available in a full-time basis and are characterised by practical-applied training with simultaneous theoretical osoznoennosty. The institute has many specialisations in the field of medical education which are General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology, etc.

Reporting to the Joint responsible with the member, the admission to SMIMS depends much on the results of national entrance exams. The MBBS programme and selection is done through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for admissions. There are a total of 676 rooms for UGs, 93 rooms for PGs, and 106 rooms for interns. The rooms are single occupancy with toilet/ bath attached and are provided with a cot, cupboard, table,e and chair. A separate buffet mess, with a fully automated hygienic kitchen, is available for the hostel students, along with a continuous water supply with a reverse osmosis water treatment plant, 24-hour electricity supply with generator back-up, separate television viewing hall, and reading room with all leading newspapers and periodicals. Telephone booth, indoor games hall, well-equipped gymnasium, and sprawling playgrounds are additional comfort features
