Shimla College of Education, Shimla popularly known as SCE is an established institution which main aim is to produce quality teachers of the future. This is a co-educational undergraduate college, run by Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, established in 2007 at the beautiful city of Shimla. This college is an affiliated college established on a compact campus area of 0.992 acres respectively The college is approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Specialist Certificate Education currently has three specific education programmes which takes a total of 351 students and has 41 skilled educators for the college. The college offers a number of courses that show its quality delivery system to the students such as B.ED, M.ED, D EL.ED that focuses on the multi-faceted domain of training teachers and providing leadership for the educational sectors.
Liberal facilities include the facilities that Shimla College of Education has adopted to offer a rich learning environment to students. The library, core of academic facility, contains thousand titles and three thousand books in term of text and references, and having subscriptions of fourteen educational journals. To facilitate practical learning, SCE has begun developing essential teaching resources such as Language Lab, Psychology Lab, Educational Technology Lab, Lab Social Science Lab, and both Physical and Life Science Labs. The college has adopted IT in its infrastructure by having computer laboratory with twenty computers that are connected to the internet to enable the students perform numerous activities as they work on projects. Besides, the campus has a canteen, an auditorium for organizing meetings, seminars, gym, sports facilities such as a 30 * 30 meters open play area, provision for practicing yoga and indoor games. The college also continues to have hostels for girl and boy students which provide accommodation for out station students.
The courses that are offered by the Shimla College of Education are complete three without having any part-time course and three full time courses relating to the education stream is three only. The programmes offered and regulated include: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Master of Education (M.Ed) and Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). The admission capacity of B.Ed has been approved for 100 students and M.Ed has only 50 students. The total number of students enrolled in different programmes in the college is 351, total student intake is the evidence of its ability to offer educational services which can make quality contribution in preparing teachers and other educational professionals.
The admission policy of Shimla College of Education is based on the merit of the course and tests scores in the qualifying examination, and maybe an entrance exam in certain cases.
