The institute was created in 2016 by a group of distinguished individuals known for their leadership in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. MITT is authorised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in New Delhi. MIT Thandavrpura is affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and is acknowledged by the Karnataka government
The B.Tech programmes offered by the MITT are B.Tech Civil Engineering, B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering and B.Tech Artificial Intelligence.
