One of the premier technical institutes in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, is the Jalpaiguri Polytechnic Institute, started in 1950. This government polytechnic college is affiliated with the West Bengal State Council of Technical and approved by All India Council for Technical Education. The JPI campus is spread over 25 acres and offers various diploma courses in the Engineering fields. The Institution provides an ideal atmosphere for technical education with a total student strength of 876 and a faculty strength of 28.
The institute is well-equipped with various facilities aimed at making the learning experience a fulfilling one and developing all-round abilities of its students. The JPI campus is well built with laboratories in aspects like Soil Mechanics, Concrete and Road Materials Testing, Electrical Engineering, Hydraulics, and Heat Engine labs. There are separate hostels for boys and girls in this institute; three boys’ hostels and one girls’ hostel on the campus. All basic facilities, such as a kitchen, dining room, common room, etc., are available in every hostel. The campus contains two big playgrounds for the students’ need of outdoor sports and other activities for recreational purposes. Facilities for indoor games exist in the common rooms of the hostels, equipped with a table tennis, carom, and chess. The institute also maintains a library, an auditorium for events and seminars, and a canteen for refreshments.
Jalpaiguri Polytechnic Institute has a total of four full-time diploma courses in engineering with three years of duration. This will provide the students with a strong base in their respective subjects. The sanctioned intake capacity of the institute, for all its programs combined, is 300, making sure an ideal student-faculty ratio and attention toward the progress of each student in academics.
