GLS Institute of Teacher Education, Ahmedabad

The GLS Institute of Teacher Education, Ahmedabad, was established in the year 2003 under the aegis of the GLS Trust in Gujarat. This affiliated college, situated opposite the Law Garden, Ellisbridge, has been shaping the future of many a career aspirant keen to take up teaching as a profession for almost two decades. The institute is deeply committed to the noble cause of teacher education through its D.El.Ed. program. The National Council for Teacher Education has approved this institute, which targets that GLS Institute of Teacher Education maintains high standards while preparing skilled and knowledgeable teachers for primary education.

This institution has a variety of facilities to make the learning experience excellent for the students. This includes a well-stocked library, which is the center of all knowledge and material needed to build a future teacher. The laboratories in the college give practice in learning by enabling students to put into practice what they have learned. Sports facilities are available as well to those students who are keen on participating in extra-curricular activities. Various events and seminars held on campus in an auditorium add to the vibrancy of the academic atmosphere. The health center provides first-aid facilities to the students, and therefore the institute focuses on student welfare. At present, GLS Institute of Teacher Education focuses on delivering quality education through its D.El.Ed program. This is a full-time course extending over a period of two years and provides a solid foundation in elementary education to students. This program has an approved intake capacity of 50 seats, testifying to the institute’s commitment towards maintaining an optimal student–teacher ratio. 

The admission process of the GLS Institute of Teacher Education is aimed at choosing only those students with potential for teaching. In most cases, admission shall be based on merit; the marks obtained in the qualifying examination shall form the basis; in some cases, an entrance examination or other selection processes may be used subject to the policy framed by the state government or UT administration from time to time.
