Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology (GUIST) is one of the most prestigious institutions affiliated with Gauhati University in Guwahati, Assam. It provides undergraduate and graduate programmes in all branches of engineering and technology. GUIST selects candidates for admission by a process aimed at attracting the best candidates from national as well as state-level entrance examinations. 

The academic session at GUIST starts from August-September, and generally by that time, the admission cycle is on. For undergraduate courses, JEE Main scores are regarded as the principal criterion for admission to the institute. For postgraduate admissions related to M.Tech programmes, GATE score results and the performance of candidates in their undergraduate studies are accepted.

For eligibility in B.Tech programmes at GUIST, a minimum requirement is the completion of the 10+2 or equivalent examination with compulsory subjects being Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. While the eligibility cutoffs may vary, candidates are generally required to display strong academic performance in these subjects. JEE Main score will be accepted for admission to B.Tech, which is a national-level entrance examination.

GUIST Application Process

The application process for GUIST varies for different programmes:

For B.Tech Programmes: 

• Qualify in the JEE Main examination;
• Register for the counseling process (details to be verified with the official website);
• Fill up the GUIST B.Tech application form in the official website; 
• Submit documents, including JEE Main score card, 10th and 12th mark sheets, and other relevant certificates;
• Pay the application fee as specified by the institute; and 
• Attend the counseling, if shortlisted, based on JEE Main rank and availability of seats. 

For M.Tech Programmes:

• Qualify in GATE examination in the relevant engineering discipline; 
• Apply through the official GUIST website for M.Tech admissions; 
• Submit relevant documents including GATE Score card, Bachelor’s degree certificate, and mark sheets, along with other needed certificates; 
• Pay the application fees as specified by the institute; and
• Attend Interview or any other selection process if required by the department.

GUIST Degree-wise Admission Process

The Institute offers a total of 10 courses through the curriculum, including B.Tech courses and M.Tech courses. Their admission processes are explained below:

GUIST B.Tech Admission Process

GUIST provides five B.Tech programmes- Biotechnology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, information Technology, and Robotics. GUIST admission to all B.Tech programmes is done on the basis of JEE Main scores. The institute has a total intake of 180 seats across five of these specialisations; the intake for individual programmes varies from 30 to 60 seats.

GUIST M.Tech Admission Process

The institute provides five M.Tech specialisations- Biotechnology, Information Technology, Signal Processing and Communications, VLSI Design and Signal Processing, Bioprocess Technology. Each programme has an intake of 18 seats. GUIST admissions are mainly based on GATE scores with the candidate’s performance in the undergraduate programme.
