This department is equipped with several facilities that ACPI believes will benefit their students. It provides state of art laboratory facilities to enable practically undertake oceanography related activities in the campus. A good library is pertinent to supporting a knowledge-based educational institution, giving the Dire ct ions access to a large number of resources in the discipline. For comping the purpose of living, there are both boys’ and girls’ hostels, so students staying there can comfortably live. The department is also privileged to use other facilities at Cochin University of Science and Technology has the sporting complex, an auditorium for functions and seminars, canteen. First-aid techniques are offered at a health centre available so that students and staff can stay healthy. Through its IT system, the Department provides for contemporary research and learning techniques ensuring that the students are aware of current uses of technology in oceanography.

As far as programmes of studies and academic focus, the Department of Physical Oceanography offers two unique postgraduate degrees. The M.Tech in Ocean Technology programme duration is two years and has an intake of 12 students; the M.Sc in Oceanography a two-year full-time programme has an annual intake of 15 students. Such programmes are intended to furnish encyclopedic information and applicative competence in oceanography and affiliated techniques. The limited intake means that tremendous effort can be put into each learner and the available resources can be fully used for each learner present.

These programmes are eagerly competitive and are only done after assessing the merits of each candidate. To join the M.Tech Ocean Technology programme, students have to register GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores.
