Deccan College of PostGraduate and Research Institute, Pune, better known as Deemed to be University, was established in the year 1990 at Yerawada, Pune. Affiliated to NAAC and approved by UGC, this institute specialises in Archaeology, Linguistics, and Sanskrit studies. There are a host of facilities provided within the institute to buttress its academic activities. The library, a pivot of the institute, houses over 170,000 documents in specialised fields like Archaeology, Ancient Indian History, Linguistics, and Sanskrit. It is 42,000 sq. ft. in area and has large stack rooms, reading areas, and individual study rooms for researchers. The Department of Linguistics is establishing a modern Computational Linguistics lab for better practical learning. College Infrastructure
We do have decent amenities in almost all aspects. Their is wifi facility in the main department, ethernet connections in the hostel rooms. Classrooms have projectors (I don’t know if that qualifies for smart boards), and they are indeed well-maintained at most times. Living spaces are clean though one of the oldest in the country. Food is above average albeit hygienic.

I am studying Archaeology here and my specialization is Quaternary Studies. I chose this course because I'm very much interested in the remote past, the different hominin ancestors and cousins we had and the environment we were a part of. Quality of teaching is actually the best in South Asia, because this is one of the premier institute of the subject in the region. Curriculum is not much good though, and could use a lot more of scientific rigour. No, it doesn't not make me job-ready.

- Boys Hostel
The University has boys' hostels accommodating 54 males with all the basic facilities.
- Girls Hostel
The University has a girls' hostel accommodating 45 female students with all the basic facilities.
- Library
The Library of Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute (Deemed University) is a very important component of the University and has a special place in the world of higher learning and research, both at the national and international levels. It is a unique library having collections mainly in the fields of Archaeology, Ancient Indian History, Medieval History, Anthropology, Linguistics, Sanskrit, Philosophy, and Religion. It has inherited a rare collection of books from the old Deccan College whose origins go back to 1821. Now it has a collection of more than one lakh seventy thousand documents. The Institute's library occupies a total carpet area of about 42,000 square feet, with spacious stack rooms, reference and reading rooms, and 40 independent study rooms for research scholars. The first floor houses periodicals and reference sections with two spacious reading rooms and the ground floor houses the administrative wing (acquisition section and circulation counter), a reading room, and two-stack rooms for books.
- Laboratories
The Department of Linguistics is in the process of developing a fully-fledged lab facility for Computational Linguistics. Computational Linguistics is an interdisciplinary field that draws on Linguistics and Computer Science. At present, the Computational Linguistics Lab is a research and educational lab in the Department of Linguistics. It is used to supplement classroom teaching of the courses in Computational Linguistics. The lab sessions include demonstrations and hands-on experience with the relevant online tools.

The University has a gymkhana that provides opportunities to students, and employees, and they're Institute has a gymkhana that provides opportunities to students, employees, and their immediate family members for recreational and cultural activities. The facilities include outdoor games such as cricket, football, and volleyball and indoor games such as badminton, table tennis, carom, and chess. It also has a facility of television and subscribes to magazines and newspapers. The Gymkhana organizes a variety of cultural activities like lectures, debate competitions, musical programs, and the celebration of festivals. The Gymkhana is managed by a committee elected by its members, with a faculty member, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor, as its chairman. The funds of the Gymkhana come from the annual grant given by the State Government to the Institute and from the subscription of its members.
