New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a public notice spelling out rules for Class X and XII CBSE board exam eligibility. The board said the move will boost transparency and enforce the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

CBSE explained that the board examinations follow a two-year programme. Classes IX and X together form the basis for the Class X exam, while Classes XI and XII prepare students for the Class XII exam. Students must study every subject for two full academic years to qualify. Class X candidates may take two extra subjects, and Class XII candidates may take one, if they study them for both years.

Attendance and Internal Assessment Rules

The board requires every student to attend at least 75 per cent of classes to sit for the examinations. It also makes internal assessments compulsory under NEP 2020. Students who skip classes or neglect their assessments will move to the “Essential Repeat” category, even if they are regular candidates.

CBSE reminded schools that they need its approval before offering subjects. They must also provide qualified teachers and proper laboratory facilities. Students cannot register for subjects if their school lacks approval or resources.

For private candidates, CBSE said students placed in the “Compartment” or “Essential Repeat” category in an additional subject can reappear under the same category. But candidates who do not complete the required years of study or assessments cannot register for additional subjects as private candidates.

“These rules protect the academic and administrative integrity of CBSE examinations,” said Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations. He urged students, parents, and schools to read the notice carefully to avoid problems with registration or results.

Interested candidates can view the official notification and program details on the GGSIPU website or contact the university’s administrative offices for direct registration. Early registration is encouraged, as seats are limited and demand is expected to be high.

This initiative by GGSIPU demonstrates its commitment to enhancing legal education and supporting the development of ADR expertise in India.
