NEW DELHI – The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued mandatory orders for all affiliated schools to enforce the CBSE 75% Attendance Rule strictly. This directive requires students to maintain minimum 75% attendance for appearing in Class X and XII board examinations during 2025-26. The CBSE 75% Attendance Rule ensures regular classroom participation and academic discipline. Schools must now monitor and implement the CBSE 75% Attendance Rule without exceptions for board exam eligibility.

Schools Must Follow Key Procedures

CBSE has directed all schools to implement strict attendance procedures. Schools must:

  • Inform students and parents about attendance rules and consequences

  • Collect proper documentation for all absences, especially medical emergencies

  • Monitor attendance daily and keep signed records for inspection

  • Notify parents in writing when students miss classes frequently

  • Submit shortage cases to CBSE by January 7 with required documents

Strict Consequences for Non-Compliance
CBSE will conduct surprise inspections to verify attendance records. Schools with incomplete records or irregular students risk disaffiliation. Students without required attendance will be barred from board exams.

Important Deadlines

  • January 1 – Attendance calculation date

  • January 7 – Last date for schools to submit shortage cases

  • January 21 – Regional offices communicate deficiencies

  • January 28 – Schools must correct deficiencies

  • February 7 – Final approval deadline

Required Documentation
Students seeking attendance condonation must provide:

  • Medical cases – Parent request, government doctor’s certificate, school recommendation

  • Family emergencies – Death certificate, parent request, school recommendation

  • Sports events – Parent request, Sports Authority of India letter, school recommendation

CBSE warns that attendance records cannot change after submission. Any attempt to modify them later will count as manipulation.

The board urges schools to inform students and parents about these rules at the start of the academic year. Requests after the deadline will face rejection. Schools must follow all standard operating procedures completely to ensure eligibility.
