The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has issued an urgent notice for undergraduate medical counselling candidates. Students allotted seats in Round 1 or Round 2 can now resign their seats between 2:00 PM on September 19, 2025, and 6:00 PM on September 24, 2025.

Who Can Resign?

  • Round 1 candidates not upgraded in Round 2: Eligible to resign without losing their security deposit, if done within the window.

  • Freshly allotted Round 2 candidates (who joined): Allowed to resign, but the security deposit will be forfeited.

  • Candidates upgraded and joined in Round 2: Also permitted to resign their upgraded seat, but with forfeiture of the security deposit.

Official Resignation Process

  • Candidates must physically report to their allotted colleges to complete the resignation.

  • The resignation letter must be generated online through the MCC portal by the college.

  • If this online step is not completed, the resignation will be treated as ‘Null & Void’, and the seat will not be vacated.

Important Advisory

DGHS has strongly advised candidates to follow the official process carefully. Only resignations documented through the MCC portal will be considered valid. Failure to comply may result in the candidate being bound to the allotted seat, along with security deposit implications.

Why This Notice Matters

This announcement brings much-needed clarity and flexibility for medical aspirants after Round 1 and Round 2 counselling. It allows students to reconsider their choices, explore other opportunities, or withdraw due to personal reasons. At the same time, the DGHS ensures transparency and fairness in the counselling process.

Guidance for Candidates

DGHS has therefore advised candidates to strictly follow the outlined procedure. Moreover, only properly documented resignations via the MCC portal will be considered valid. This is especially important for those seeking to explore alternative opportunities or correct their admission choices.

In addition, candidates and colleges are advised to refer to the official DGHS notice for complete instructions. Finally, they must ensure that all online and offline documentation is in order before the deadline.
