CBSE Launches Aryabhata Ganit Challenge 2025 to Boost Real-Life Mathematics Skills in Schools

On a graph paper background with geometric diagrams, a blue drafting compass and a blue circular stenciling ruler are visible. A blue box at the top reads: "CBSE Launches Aryabhata Ganit Challenge 2025." Below, a yellow banner says: "to Boost Real-Life Mathematics Skills in Schools." The CBSE logo is at the lower left, and the Career Plan B logo appears in the top right corner.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially launched the Aryabhata Ganit Challenge (AGC) 2025, an annual mathematics competition for students of Classes VIII to X in all CBSE-affiliated schools. The challenge aims to foster practical mathematical skills, creativity, and innovative thinking.

The AGC encourages students to apply mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios, going beyond rote calculation. It focuses on strategic thinking, logical reasoning, visualization, and problem-solving.

Two-Stage Competition and Key Details

Stage 1: School-Level Competition
Schools can download the exam paper from the official CBSE portal and conduct the test on campus. All students from Classes VIII to X can participate. The top three scorers from each school move to the next stage. In case of a tie, schools may conduct a supplementary test to select the finalists.

Stage 2: National-Level Online Competition
CBSE will conduct an online computer-based test for the top three students from each school on October 29, 2025. The top 100 performers from each region will receive Merit Certificates.

Assessment Areas
The challenge evaluates:

  • Geometry and Spatial Sense

  • Quantitative Aptitude

  • Algebra

  • Data Analysis and Probability

  • Number Sense and Number System

  • Mensuration

Students are assessed on strategic approach, creative and abstract thinking, logical reasoning, visualization, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills.

Exam Structure and Timeline

  • Duration: 1 hour

  • Format: Multiple-choice questions only

  • Marks: 40 (no negative marking)

  • School registration: September 19–30, 2025 (Stage 1, free)

  • Stage 2 registration & fee: October 15–22, 2025 (₹900 per school, non-refundable)

  • National-level test: October 29, 2025

Recognition

The top 10 schools in each region with maximum student participation in Stage 1 will receive special Appreciation Certificates. Students can highlight their participation and achievements in the AGC on academic portfolios.

Dr. Praggya M. Singh, Director (Academics), CBSE, urged schools to inspire maximum participation, stating that the AGC is “a worthwhile experience to enable students to explore and enhance their mathematical abilities.”

The Aryabhata Ganit Challenge 2025 aims to nurture mathematical talent and critical thinking, helping students become lifelong problem solvers, not just exam winners.
